The winners of the Museums + Heritage Awards for Excellence were announced on the 19 May at a glittering, packed out, ceremony at 8 Northumberland. View the 2016 winners here or check out our winners video on the left.

What a fantastic evening and congratulations to all this year’s finalists and winners! Check out our video to see who walked away with this year's coveted Awards!

A special thank you to the wonderful Marcus Brigstocke for entertaining us all evening and our partners and sponsors for making this year’s Awards even more special. A special thank you to BECK for helping us celebrate late into the evening by sponsoring the After Awards Party.

The annual Museums + Heritage Awards for Excellence, now in its fourteenth year, recognise projects of excellence, innovative and groundbreaking exhibitions from galleries and visitor attractions across the UK and Europe. These range from remarkable achievements of national institutions to projects crafted with limited resources and those championing their staff and volunteers who work hard to deliver inspiring visitor experiences.

Among the big winners were the V&A who walked away with the Temporary or Touring Exhibition Award for Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. Biggar Museums Trust scooped the inaugural Fundraisers of the Year Award and with so many entries for the Volunteers of the Year Award the judges awarded the individual volunteer prize to Bobby Ogogo from the Horniman Museum & Gardens and the Volunteer team Award to the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum Volunteers. The judges awarded Best of the Best to Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Outstanding Contribution by an Indiovidual was awarded to Carole Souter. Congratulations to all the organisations awarded highly commended and especially to all our winners.

The Awards are judged by a panel of the sector's leading lights including, Diane Lees, Director General, Imperial War Museum; Bernard Donoghue, Director, Association of Leading Visitor Atrractions (ALVA) and other leading sector professionals.
