Sharing collections online
Digital media offers people unprecedented opportunities to share and engage with collections online. At the same time, museums have to be careful to protect the integrity of their online identity. Drawing on current programmes, this session will explore how museums can make the most of the opportunities and avoid the risks when sharing their Collections online.

Skills for collections
As museums come under increased pressure to make their Collections work harder, they need to ensure that they can access the necessary skills and expertise, both internally and through their networks and partnerships. This interactive session will draw on the recent ‘Sharing Expertise’ project supported by the Collections Trust with the British Museum, the Museums Association, AIM and NMDC to foster more productive ways of learning, sharing and using knowledge and expertise to enrich people’s engagement with collections.

Accreditation for Organisational Health
The current Accreditation Scheme has a greater emphasis on continual development than previous incarnations of the standard. Planning for all museums activities is a core part of the scheme. Using real world examples and best practice from ‘PAS 197:2009 Code of practice for cultural collections management’ delegates will be given greater confidence on how to use Accreditation to improve every aspect of what they do.

Collections on the move
One way of getting your collections to work harder is to create an active programme of loans and touring. While touring offers great opportunities for engagement, it also presents risks to the collection. This session draws on a recent large-scale touring exhibition and the expertise of the MA’s Smarter Loans steering group to explore how the risks can be minimised when working with couriers and collections on the move.
